In other news, I'm really smitten with this fine little camera.   So much so that the only use I can imagine for my LX3 is a super ultra lite trip backpacking or bike trip that won't allow me to take the GF1.    So much so that the only use I can imagine for my Nikon DSLR is my son's soccer games where frames per second shooting matter most.   

I hope to post a thorough 1st review of the GF1 sometime in the next week or two.    

The GF1 is a very good camera in terms of design.   The controls are all in the right place.    The execution and control are fantastic.   Focus speed is so far beyond the E-P1.  Great job Panasonic.    

When comparing the body to my Lumix LX3, it feels a bit plasticy.   The body finish and quality is one of the things where the Olympus E-P1 outshines the GF1.  I would pay more for a GF1 with a higher quality look and feel.

So...Who is this camera for?   The person moving up from the point and shoot or the person wanting a smaller camera with DSLR features?   In all honesty I think it's both and I think Panasonic nailed it with the GF1.

In hand it feels like a heavier and slightly bulkier Lumix LX3.  I found myself looking for the joystick to navigate the menu system and I kept looking for the little zoom control on the shutter button.   It didn't take long though to figure it out because the controls are all very good.   I particularily like the AE/Focus lock button and find it is easier to use than the controls on my DSLR.  

Just a few other notes.    The 14-45 zoom (28mm-90mm equivalent) is wonderful and small.   I like the extended zoom range when comparing it to my LX3.   However, I did notice that I missed the 24mm wide end of my LX3.   I love shooting wide.  I wish the zoom was a 12-40!  

So....Enough about the camera.  How about a few images?  

Just like my LX3, I love the dynamic B&W setting.  

The leaves are falling here in MN.   The Nature setting brings nice, vibrant and smooth colors.   This is not the vivid setting.   Vivid is just too much for me.   

I sure think this is the camera for me and for a lot of people wanting an extremely high quality, interchangable lens camera that you can comfortably carry all day.    It really is that good.  

I also got a brief hands on with the camera.  It is an amazing piece of kit and I'm pretty sure this could be my ultimate adventure camera.    

Also check out the DP Review 20mm/1.7 lens review here.    It appears to be an incredibly good lens but read the review and judge for yourself.   Amazon and others are accepting pre orders now.  

And....Speaking of Amazon the GF1 with 14-54 is now shipping in the USA.  I sure wish we could get colors in the USA.   Might have to make a trip to Japan!
